BAGAN
 The remains of the first Myanmar Kingdom
scattered across a vast arid plain, positively
exude antiquity and mystery, complexity and
fantasy. The Kingdom of Bagan was founded in
A.D. 849. However, it was not until King
Anawrahta ascended the throne in 1044, unified
the country, built Buddhist shrines and royal
palaces there, that the Kingdom was brought to
full flower. The following 250 years of peace
saw devout rulers including King Kyansittha
build many pagodas for which Bagan is known
today.
