DAWEI
Dawei, the capital of Tanintharyi Division is
the southernmost administrative region in
Myanmar. A port at the head of the Tavoy river
estuary near the Andaman Sea, the town is in an
area in which rice and timber are produced; iron
tin and tungsten mines are in the vicinity. It
is a centre for rice processing and sawmilling
industries; for manufacturer of silk textiles;
and for trade in fish and wood products. Resorts
abound at Maungmagan beach 8 miles northwest of
Dawei and are famous for delicious seafood.
